If you ride a mountain bike, eventually you’ll have to stop for a repair. This can range from a flat tire to a broken cable on a dropper post.
To be prepared for most trail break downs, I usually carry the following:
- Spare inner tube
- tire pump
- tire levers
- multi-tool with a torx bit
- leatherman / pliers
- e-z link or similar
- spare cable
- zip ties
This is what I’ve needed so far, but you learn with experience what might break on you.
You have to consider how far from your trailhead, car, or base camp you might be and whether you want to walk your bike the distance to get back there in the event of a break down.
Flat Tire Repair
This one isn’t too hard, if you have a spare that is! Basically you’ll want to let out any air still left in the tire, unseat the tire from rim either by force or with the tire levers.
Then remove the valve stem by unscrewing the nut at the base, it’s against the rim, and then pushing it thru.
More to come on this..
I will keep this post updated as I run into other issues but so far this list has served me well.
